Simon P. Hays (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Simon "Jack" P. Hays, son of Hannibal and Lela F. Shawn Hays, was born September 8, 1921, at Harvelle, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, May 15, 2010, in Northwood Hills Care Center, in Humansville, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, eight months, and seven days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all but his youngest sister.
Jack is survived by his wife, Audrey Spradling Hays; two sons, Robert Hays, and his wife, Angie, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Wayne Hays, and his wife, Benita, of Memphis, Tennessee; a daughter, Cheryl Hays, and her husband, Davoud Safariaky, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Killian, and her husband, Fred, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Harvelle, Missouri and was raised in the Harvelle and Naylor, Missouri areas. Jack was a gifted welder and had worked as a boiler maker for several years. He was a long-time member of the Teamsters Union. In later years he had operated an auto transport business.
Jack was considered to be a workaholic, but in his spare time he enjoyed a good game of poker. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Jack was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the many memories he created.
