Sonja Kenney's Obituary
Sonja Kay Kenney, daughter of William Wesley and Zelpha Maxine (McMahan) Brown was born September 2, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in her home in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of sixty-one years, two months, and eight days. On January 18, 1966 she was united in marriage to Lyle Eugene Hennigh, and to this union three daughters were born. He died in l983 during a tornado in Houston, Texas. Sonja was married to Richard “Dick” Lee Kenney on December 29, 1983 and together they enjoyed sixteen years before his passing on April 13, 2000. Sonja was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her three daughters, Rhonda Hennigh-Smith and her husband, Joe, of Sugar Creek, Missouri, Renn’e Wallace and her husband, Darrel “Bub”, and Rachelle Rambo and her companion, James Miller, all of Seymour, Missouri; one son, Ronald Dotson, of Independence, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, Nathan, Natalie, Paige, Austin, Curtis, Kayla, Stephanie, Joshua, Tanner, Makenna, Adison, Ryan, and Kelsea; a brother, Bill Brown and his wife, Belinda, of Independence, Missouri; three nieces, Rebecca, Regina, and Billie Sue; five great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends. Sonja was born in Kansas City and lived in Independence before moving to Seymour, Missouri in l988. She moved to Independence for several years and back to Seymour three years ago. She had worked as a waitress and a hairdresser for many years and then graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Missouri. After her graduation, she worked at the Independence Regional Hospital in Independence, Missouri, Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri, and Magnolia Square and Manor Care in Springfield, Missouri. Sonja had made her profession of faith in God and attended several churches with her family. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her friends at Wilda’s Café in Seymour. She also collected angels and clowns. Sonja was a “people person” who loved her job and taking care of the residents in the care centers where she worked. She loved her family very much and had a special relationship with her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and cherish the precious memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 14, 2009 at the Mt. Washington Forever Chapel Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.Burial will be in the Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until time of service under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Seymour, Missouri. Return to top
