Steve was born on May 24, 1950, to Bernard W. Lober and Geraldine L. Lober in Kansas City, MO. He spent his childhood cultivating his love for westerns and cars. A love of music led him to learn to play the guitar when he was 13.
He graduated Oak Park High School in May of 1969 and married his high school sweetheart, Linda Fuller, on July 11, 1969. He was drafted in February of 1970 and did his basic training in Fort Campbell, Kentucky before being moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky for tank training. He was stationed with the 3rd Army Division in Büdingen, Germany until January 1972.

On June 27, 2013 Steve was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. He fought the cancer for 2 years and 3 months. The many months brought him closer to his Lord and Savior and before the end, his faith was stronger than it had ever been in his life.
