Steve Owens' Obituary
Steve Lee Owens, son of James Erskerl and Ida Louise (Cornelison) Owens was born August 27, 1953, in Marshfield, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, December 27, 2008, in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of fifty-five years and four months. On July 20, 1973, Steve was united in marriage to April Ann Hoover, and to this union two daughters and one son were born. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-five years, April, of the home; two daughters, Megan Bradley and her husband, Devon, of Springfield, Missouri, and Miranda Crighton and her husband, Justin, of Augusta, Georgia; one son, Alex Owens, of the home; three granddaughters, Alyssa, Abby, and Addison Bradley, all of Springfield, Missouri; his father and his mother, James and Louise Owens, of Seymour, Missouri; one brother, Gary Owens and his wife, Kelly, of Seymour, Missouri; two sisters, Debbie Owens, of Springfield, Missouri, and Missy Swearengin and her husband, Randy, of Marshfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Marthann Hoover, of Springfield, Missouri; his father-in-law, George Hoover, of Marshfield, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Steve was born in Marshfield, Missouri, and grew up in Diggins, where he attended grade school until the school was consolidated into the Seymour School District. He graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1971. After he and April were married they owned and operated a dairy farm south of Diggins for eighteen years. Steve then began working as a building contractor and owned the Steve Owens Construction Company in Seymour, where he worked until he began his battle against lung cancer. He was a member of the Hazelwood Masonic Lodge #459 AF & AM in Seymour. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially hunting for turkeys. While living on the farm, he was an avid gardener and liked taking care of his cows and horses, and had a talent for team roping. Steve was a sports fan and loved watching the Cardinals Baseball Games on television. Steve was proud of his family and had a very special place in his heart for his three granddaughters, “The Lights of His Life.” He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he created for all his family and many friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday December 31, 2008 at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Seymour.Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until time of service under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Seymour, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
