Steven Curtis Miller Born October 3, 1968 in Greenville, Ohio Died August 23, 2012 in Lawrence KS as the result of a fatal motorcycle-car accident.
He is survived by his parents, Gaylerd and Marlene (Knight) Miller of Mansfield, MO. His brother Sam Miller and wife Cynthia of Mansfield MO. His sister Linnea Joy Streeval of Columbia, KY and sister Anita Mardis and husband Jason of Columbia KY. His three children Stephanie Linnea Miller Unfred of Lawrence KS; Stanley Mylon Miller of Topeka KS; and Wesley Steven Miller of Topeka KS. Nieces and nephews. Sandra Kreutzweiser and husband Jon, Laura Miller, Hanna Streeval, David Streeval and Destiny Mardis.
Steve grew up in the Seymour-Mansfield area. He attended and graduated from Mt. Zion Bible School of Ava, MO. He married Janice Howard and three children were born from this union. He worked at Mans-steel for several years, and drove commercial trucks for several years. The family moved to and lived near Mitchell SD for a number of years. He established his own business as a licensed massage therapist. After his divorce he moved to Linwood, KS to be near his children. Steve worked there as a massage therapist and certified nursing assistant. He also worked as a self employed home health care giver, giving care to Bob and Flo, and started a wood cutting business. He was on his way to take care of Flo when he was involved in a fatal motorcycle-car accident.
Steve was a hard worker and learned a number of skills including welding, truck driving, massage therapy, nursing, scuba diving, some mechanics and carpentry and plumbing ability. He had a very green thumb which he learned by listening to his Grandma Miller, as well as to others. He could grow a garden and flowers so good. He loved to fish and to hunt. The days were not long enough to get done all he wanted to do, and he would work late at night many a time.
He was a true gentleman. He honored his father and mother. He would almost always bring his mother flowers when he came for a visit, and give her a massage to comfort her. When he went through heartache and loneliness, he didn’t allow it to make him bitter, but make him better. He loved his kids and was always planning how to help them and take care of them. He learned from Dave Ramsey how to get out of debt and save and live economically and invest wisely. He lived to give, to love and to help others. He gave his flowers to people while he was living. Steve loved his Aunt Carol and Carol loved Steve. He could do anything with her and she loved it. He was always smiling, humming, whistling or singing as he went about his day. He could be a little ornery by times. He loved to gather around the piano with his family and sing the old hymns of the church. Steve was fairly quiet and soft-spoken but showed his faith by the way he lived and loved. He was always home for family reunions and gatherings.
Steve was engaged to be married to Selena Feiden on December 12, 2012 at 12:12 PM.
As his father, as I grieved and prayed, it seemed I could hear Job getting the news that all 10 of his children had been killed by a whirlwind – a tornado. His response was ‘The Lord gave’. I can understand that part. God gave Steve to us and he was such a blessing. Then Job didn’t say they died in a tornado or accident, he said ‘The Lord hath taken away’. Blessed be the name of the Lord. With Job I will trust the Lord’s wisdom and dealings, and give praise to Him for all His blessings to us and to Steve. In His wisdom He has called Steve home and we give Him praise. And as his sisters have said, I imagine his guardian angels are wiping their brow and are greatly relieved their responsibility to take care of Steve is over. He kept them very busy.
Steve, through tears we say we love you so much, and miss you already, and look forward to family reunions in a better place sometime soon.
Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again.
