Steven H. Whitehead, Sr. (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Steven Henry Whitehead, Sr., son of Alfred and Rosalie Winifred Altmeyer Whitehead, was born January 16, 1943, in The Bronx, New York. He departed this life Wednesday, July 29, 2020, in Barnes Jewish Hospital, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, six months, and thirteen days.
On May 18, 1964, he was united in marriage Mae Gail Schnorrbusch, and to this union three sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alan Frank Nathaniel Whitehead; and a brother, William Matthew Whitehead.
Steven is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Mae, of the home; two sons, Steven Whitehead, Jr., and his wife, Cynthia, of Schaumburg, Illinois, and Richard David Weisskopf, of Israel; a daughter-in-law, Larisa Yanbekov; five grandchildren, Christopher Alan Whitehead, Rebecca Stevie Whitehead, Liyah Esther Weisskopf, Natanela Weisskopf, and Richard Moshe Weisskopf; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Whitehead, of the State of New Jersey; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in New York, and then moved to New Jersey when he was eighteen years old. After high school, Steve earned his business degree from North Eastern Illinois University. He originally began working at A & P Grocers and made retail grocery sales his career, but his true love was numismatics. He eventually retired from Dominicks Finer Food Corporation. Later, he and Mae made their home in Lebanon, Missouri.
Steven had a true love for the Lord. He had a fondness for the Hillcrest Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church both of Lebanon and was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. Through the years he had been a Sunday school teacher, had done some preaching, worked in the jail ministry, and did hospital and nursing home visits. He was also involved in AWANA’s. He had taken a mission trips to Africa and Germany and also helped in the post hurricane Katrina ministry.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing pinnacle, chess and liked collecting coins. He possessed an incredible and unique sense of humor and loved to laugh. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren.
Steven was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 3, 2020 at Holman-Howe Funeral Home at 6 p.m. A visitation will follow the service.
A memorial has been established to Heritage Baptist Church, AWANA program in Israel.
