Sue Ann (Hall) Dampier was born on October 25, 1938, to Adlai and Beulah (Powers) Hall in Sikeston, Missouri and departed this life on July 12, 2021, at the age of 82.
Sue’s family moved from Sikeston to west of Long Lane, Missouri where they lived through much of Sue’s childhood and teen years. She often told of the many adventures she had with her brother Don Hall as they walked to school each day and all the wonderful times she shared with her brothers Jack, Gene, Don, and Fred Hall along with their parents Adlai and Beulah.
While at Long Lane Sue met Frank Dampier of the Lead Mine area. Frank played guitar and Sue loved to dance and together they won many contests. She jigged danced to Frank’s guitar picking! They married after she graduated from high school and to this union Edna Hale (Rick), Justin Dampier, Steve Dampier (Tracy), and Becky Dampier were born.
Sue loved her children and later was so in love with her five grandchildren Jessica Dampier Shook (Josh), Sarah Dampier Southard (Ryan), Joe Dampier, Katy Dampier, and Josh Dampier, later enjoying great-grandchildren, Colton, Ali, Max, Hudson, Harrison, and Hayes.
Sue loved the Lord and used her wonderful singing voice and guitar to lead the singing at the London Smoke Baptist Church for over twenty years. She also served as the adult Sunday school teacher and church treasurer among other roles as needed.
The Dampier family raise, train and show Missouri Fox Trotter horses and Sue was proud of her sons, husband, and grandkids many riding awards. Sue was the best cheerleader and helped on the ground by making ribbons for the horses’ manes and sewing riding outfits and anything else needed.
Sue and Frank left Long Lane and moved to Urbana, Missouri in 1987 and had cattle operations of milking and later beef cattle. Sue ran an egg production business raising many chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys and selling the eggs commercially. Sue loved to work and enjoyed many hobbies, such as sewing, embroidery, fishing, and baking. Sue was famous for biscuits, apple pie, and peach cobbler! Her greatest hobby was cultivating flowers and raising a garden. Sue enjoyed countless hours of digging in the dirt and growing things
Sue was a wonderful Christian, loving her Jesus and having his love spilled over onto her husband, kids, grandkids, and friends. We were blessed by her love and have faith in Jesus’ promise that we will be together in paradise… Till we meet again!
