Sue Long's Obituary
B. Sue Long, daughter of George Calvin and Altha Belle McClanahan Claxton, was born June 17, 1927 in Hartville, Missouri. She departed this life Friday April, 25, 2008 in St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield, at the age of eighty-years, ten months, and eight days. On April 27, 1945 she was married to Bill Long and they had sixty-two wonderful years together and to this union they had one son, Phil. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Verba Poole, Verga Reddinger, Goldie Coday, and Ruby Iles; along with one brother, Billie Gene Claxton. She is survived by her husband, Bill, of the home; her son, Phillip, of Fort Collins, Colorado; a sister, Maxine Roberts and her husband Clyde, of Hartville, Missouri; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends. Sue was a very special person with love for her family and church. She worked hard to get the Bill and Sue Claxton Scholarship Fund established for deserving students at Hartville High School. She enjoyed meeting and visiting with friends at the Hartville Senior Citizen’s Center. She was a walking library on the Claxton Family genealogy. Sue was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments. The cherished and wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends will live on in our hearts forever. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Hartville. Burial will be in the Steele Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri.
