Sydney Butterfield's Obituary
Sydney Kathleen Butterfield, daughter of William George and Maude Wilson Shafer was born November 10, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa and departed this life Sunday, January 23, 2011 in her home near Mansfield, Missouri at the age of eighty three years, two months and thirteen days. On January 11, 1950 she was united in marriage to Philip Butterfield and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Philip on May 16, 2000, two brothers, Sam and George Shafer and a half brother, Billy. Sydney is survived by a son, Philip Butterfield, Jr. and his wife Alta Faye of Fair Grove, Missouri; a daughter, Pamela Butterfield of Mansfield, Missouri and one grandson, Stephen Butterfield of Bowling Green, Missouri as well as a host of friends. She was born in Iowa and moved at the age of 15 with her family to California where she met Philip. After marriage they continued to live in California until moving to Mansfield in 1978 where she lived the remainder of her life. Sydney had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member Norwood Methodist Church. She was also a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, baking and reading. Sydney was a loving mother and grandmother and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
