She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 11, 1992; a son, Jan Sherertz; a daughter, Jane Thieman; a sister, Treva Hansen; and two brothers, Elwood Hansen and Lloyd Hansen. Sylvia was born and raised in Fremont, Nebraska, and moved to San Diego, California, where she met and married George. While living there, they both worked at the Convair Aircraft Defense Plant before moving to the farm near Diggins, Missouri, in 1944, where they lovingly raised their three children. She worked along side George, milking cows daily, for over forty years, riding horses, working fields, planting and harvesting large vegetable gardens, and raising hogs. She especially enjoyed receiving mail order chicks, as well as reading stacks of books weekly. She had made her profession of faith in God and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Diggins, Missouri. Sylvia wanted to be a nurse, but instead, spent her life taking care of others. She was known for her afternoon ice cream, cakes, and special treats. She loved to dance the “Charleston” and play the piano. Those who knew her always said, “She was a sweet and lovely lady.” “Mom” always said, “I love you more,” which has become our family standard. She lived on “Rocky Acres” and was our “Rock of Ages.” Sylvia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2006, in Zion Lutheran Church, Diggins, Mo. Private burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
