Sylvia Lorene Gage's Obituary
Sylvia Lorene Gage, daughter of Selvy and Almer (Langston) Durbin, was born October 4, 1918, in Lowell, Oklahoma. She departed this life Saturday, April 15, 2006, in Grandview Manor Care Center, in Grandview, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, six months, and eleven days. On December 22, 1938, she was united in marriage to Noah Lee Gage, who preceded her in death on August 29, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Robbie Fitzpatrick Sylvia is survived by three sons, Jim Gage, and his wife, Martha, of Mansfield, Missouri, Charles Gage, and his wife, Mary Ann, of Grandview, Missouri, and Jerry Gage, and his wife, Georgetta, of Independence, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Durbin; a sister, Jewel Roberts, a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born in Oklahoma and moved with her family to Blue Springs, Missouri, where she met Lee. After they married, they moved to Independence, Missouri, and lovingly raised their family. In the early 70’s they moved to their farm in Wright County, and then in 1995 she moved to Grandview. Sylvia had made her profession of faith in Christ, and was a former member of the Hartville Church of God, she later attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a former member of the Hartville Senior Citizens. She loved caring for the animals on the farm and greatly enjoyed feeding and watching her birds. She also liked to fish and loved making beautiful quilts. Sylvia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday,April 19, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville. Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri. A memorial to the American Heart Association has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
