Thelma Trusty's Obituary
Thelma Beatrice Hicks Trusty, daughter of Henry Haydon and Mamie Alma (Stevens) Atkisson, was born July 5, 1923, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, January 02, 2007, in Hartville Care Center, in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, five months, and twenty-seven days. She was united in marriage to Virgil Cleo “Pete” Hicks, who preceded her in death. She later married William Marion Trusty on November 17, 1965, who also preceded her in death on July 2, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a daughter, Nina Carmichael; a son-in-law, Harold Lawson; a sister, Marcella Brickell; and a brother, Don Atkisson. Thelma is survived by four sons, John Eden, of Farmington, Missouri, Dale Hicks, and his wife, Rosalie, of Grovespring, Missouri, Jack Hicks, and his wife, Donna, and Andy Trusty, and his wife, Carol, all of Hartville, Missouri; six daughters, Orpha Rose Lawson, of Moline, Illinois, Merinda Suffal , and her husband, Jim, of Hollister, Missouri, Esther Hicks, of Hartville, Missouri, Donna Coday, of Norwood, Missouri, Virgie Greer, and her husband, Rocky, of Collins, Missouri, and Margie Cole, and her husband, Terry, of Wichita, Kansas; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Randy Carmichael, of Moline, Illinois; a sister, Millie Waddel, of Independence, Missouri; two brothers, John Atkisson, of Independence, Missouri, and Garland Johnson, of Mansfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born near Mountain Grove and was a life long resident of Wright County, the majority of her adult life was spent in the Hartville area. The last few years she spent in the Hartville Care Center. Thelma had made her profession of faith in Christ. She was a devoted homemaker, taking care of her family. She never met a stranger and was always willing to take food or help anyone in need. In her spare time she enjoyed taking walks with her dog, going to yard sales, cooking and canning food. She also loved sewing, growing beautiful flowers and working in her vegetable garden. Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville. Burial will be in the Mountain Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri. Memorials may be made through the funeral home.
