Thomas Edward Stewart (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Thomas Edward Stewart was born September 24, 1931 in Competition, Missouri to his parents, Roy Ancil and Opal Dexter Claxton Stewart. He passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025 in Brookdale Medi-Park West in Amarillo, Texas. He was ninety-three years, eleven months and three days of age.
Tom was raised in the Grovespring, Missouri community and graduated from Hartville High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army where he faithfully served his country in the Korean War. He was proud to have received a Bronze Star and earned the rank of Sargent First Class.
Following his service to his country, he moved to Greensburg, Kansas and married Phyllis “Arlene” Wimer. They were married on November 14, 1953 and celebrated sixty-four years of wonderful memories prior to her passing on January 24, 2018.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Ancil and Opal; his loving wife, Arlene; two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his children, Quinton Stewart (Amy), Teresa Palmer (Mark), and Cloris Thurston (John); seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Tyler, Kristen, Megan, Morgan, Parker and Damara; eleven great-grandchildren; his sister, Leota Pratt (Charles); and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was of the Baptist faith and stayed involved with the local church wherever he lived.
He was employed with Northern Natural Gas/Enron, as an operational and safety engineer from 1953-1987. They moved between Kansas and Texas then to Minnesota in 1970, all with his employment with Northern Natural Gas Company. They moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1989.
He loved to cook, play cards, dice and bingo. He enjoyed taking long vacations with his family over the years and weekend camping trips. Tom took pride in his family and has always been a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Throughout his life, he was active in arts and crafts, woodworking, and stained glass, anything to keep his hands busy, and was always available to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Tom loved and cherished his wife and children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a caring and trusted neighbor and friend. Tom was a good, honorable man who loved and trusted God, worked hard, and always tried to do the right thing. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them. His spirit and kindness will be truly missed!
Service for Thomas will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Competition Cemetery with full military honors.
