Tom R. Redd (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Tom R. Redd, 87, was born on September 12, 1937, and died on Friday, December 27, 2024,
surrounded by his family at his home in Halfway, MO. Tom was the youngest of four boys born
to Andrew and Lottie (Barham) Redd, both of Halfway.
Tom graduated from Halfway High School in 1957. For the next ten years, he drove a milk truck
for Square Deal Dairy and Kraft. It was on this milk route that Tom accepted Jesus as his Lord
and Savior. He later sold his route and began buying fescue seed, which he would continue for
three decades. During this time, he also raised beef cattle. After retiring from the fescue seed
business, Tom continued raising cattle and began growing row crops.
Tom married Loraine Medcalf of Buffalo, MO, on July 20, 1977. Together they raised four
children: Jason (Toni) Farmer, Halfway, MO; Heather (Steve) Carvajal, Tipton, MO; Nicole (Kyle)
Windy, Queen City, MO; and TJ (Karen) Redd, Halfway, MO. In their forty-seven-year marriage,
they resided in Halfway and were blessed with seventeen grandchildren and three great
grandchildren.
In addition to farming, Tom also loved horses. He and Loraine took their horses on elk hunts in
Colorado on several occasions and, in his forties, Tom began raising and racing Thoroughbreds.
Tom loved sharing stories and made lifelong friends at the race track, the fescue barn, and the
“round table” of the local cafe. He enjoyed making daily trips to check on his cattle and watching
his grandchildren play ball.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herbert “Barm” Redd, Dean Redd, and
Hobert Redd, and granddaughter Haley Farmer. He is survived by his wife, children, and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services for Tom will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar starting at 12:00 PM. Visitation will take place before the service Thursday starting at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Reed Cemetery in Halfway immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be to Reed Cemetery 4247 Highway P Halfway, Missouri 65663.
