Travis Johnson's Obituary
Travis Preston Johnson, Jr., son of Travis Preston, Sr., and Hettie (Brownlow) Johnson, was born November 9, 1924, in Gainesville, Texas. He departed this life Wednesday, October 31, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, eleven months, and twenty-two days. On March 31, 1945 he was united in marriage to Ruby Olive Hefner and to this union one son was born. Travis was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; a son, Johnnie Lee Johnson, and his wife, Patty, of Urbana, Missouri; three grandsons, Travis Preston Johnson III, of Branson, Missouri, Johnnie Lee Johnson, Jr., and his wife, Tina, of Hurley, Missouri, and Jesse Allen Johnson, and his fiancé, Regina, of Woodbine, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Lloyd, and her husband, Jack, of Dodge City, Kansas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas area and moved to Kansas where he met and married Ruby. They lived in many different states including Texas, Illinois, Oregon, and Idaho before settling in Des Moines, Iowa in 1954. They then moved to Branson in 1979, after retiring from Associated Wholesale Grocers. Travis had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the West Madison Church, in Des Moines. His family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his grandsons and great-grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Taneycomo, pheasant hunting, refinishing things, and traveling. He also took great pride in his yard and loved working in his garden. Travis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2007, in the Little Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association may be made through the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri.
