Twila Maye Elam (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Twila Maye Elam was born December 14, 1929 in Brazito, Missouri, to Dennis K. Hoskins and Melinda Alzada Maye Russell. She passed away in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehab on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. At the time of her passing, she was ninety-three years, eleven months and one day of age.
Twila lived her life in the Lebanon area and was a seamstress at H.D. Lee where she made many life-long friends. She later served as a librarian at Hillcrest School and volunteered with the Literacy Council. She greatly enjoyed being a librarian and interacting with hundreds of children.
On May 4, 1947, Twila was united in marriage to Henry Meyer. To this union, eight children were born. Henry passed away in 1978. She later married Robby Elam. He passed in March of 1996.
She was a caregiver to her special needs son, Harry Meyer. She was honored to be able to care for him.
Twila was active at the North 5 Freewill Baptist Church. She was strong in her faith and loved the Lord with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Henry and Robbie; three daughters, Georgia Maylene, Kay Meyer and Denise Letterman; two infant brothers; a brother, Paul Hoskins; her sisters, Sharon Brown and Juanita Brewer; a sister-in-law, Betty Hoskins; and a special aunt, Pauline Donigan.
Twila is survived by three daughters, Aleeta Duncan of Lebanon, Missouri, Gladys Smith of Higginsville, Missouri and Betty Douglas of Richland, Missouri; two sons, George Henry Meyer, Jr. of Montreal, Missouri and Harry Meyer of Lebanon, Missouri; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren and thirty great-great-grandchildren.
Twila loved raising beautiful flowers and taking care of her yard. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved her family very much. She was happy each time she was able to spend time with her family and looked forward to family gatherings.
Words cannot adequately express the impact she has had on the lives of her family and so many others. Her fingerprints are on us. We can only hope to live up to what she saw in us.
A memorial has been established for the Laclede County Developmental Training Center and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
