Twila Meyer's Obituary
Twila Kay Meyer, daughter of George H. and Twila Maye Hoskins Meyer, was born June 8, 1955, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, April 8, 2007, in her home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of fifty-one years, and ten months. She was preceded in death by her father; and a sister, Georgia M.”Jo” Burns. Twila Kay is survived by a son, Erick Meyer, of Lebanon, Missouri; her mother, Twila Elam, of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, George H. Meyer, Jr., of Montreal, Missouri, and Harry S. Meyer, of Lebanon, Missouri; four sisters, Betty Douglas, of Richland, Missouri, Aleeta Duncan, of Lebanon, Missouri, Gladys Smith, of Higginsville, Missouri, and Idris Denise Leatherman, of Independence, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; two step-brothers, Junior Elam, of Richland, Missouri, and Kenny Elam, of Conway, Missouri; a step-sister, Sharon Elam White, of Camdenton, Missouri ;as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Lebanon, Missouri, and graduated from Lebanon High School. She later earned her bachelor degree from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. She had worked at Marathon Electric, the Durham Company, and Copeland Corporation before becoming a teacher. She had taught in the Stoutland Schools for two years and in the Richland Elementary School for three years. In 2006, she was given the Wal Mart Teacher of the Year Award for Richland, Missouri. Twila made her profession of faith in Christ when she was a youth, and joined Emmanuel Chapel near Lebanon. Throughout her life she tried to always serve others. Once she became a teacher, she devoted herself to being the best teacher she could be, and was admired by her fellow teachers and administrators. She also volunteered at the Laclede County Developmental Center. Her family was always the center of her life and she especially loved her son. She possessed a keen sense of humor and had found that to be a blessing during the last few years. Twila was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin. She will be fondly remembered as a caring and dedicated teacher, a kind co-worker, and a wonderful friend. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Hufft Cemetery, near Eldridge. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to the Outdoor Classroom Project at Richland Elementary School may be made through the funeral home.
