Velda C Holcomb (Seymour)'s Obituary
Velda Holcomb, life-long Seymour resident and beloved wife of Glen Holcomb, unexpectedly departed this life Saturday, June 21, 2014, at her residence in Seymour, Missouri. Velda was sixty-four years, one month and one day young.
One of four children, she was born Velda Colleen Davis on May 20, 1950, in Springfield, Missouri to Reverend Howard Lee and Betty Jewel (Napier) Davis. She was raised on the family dairy farm and continued to work alongside her father until taking a job with Casey’s General Stores in 1991. Velda was employed with Casey’s for nearly 23 years and was planning to retire. Her pizza making skills were legendary in Seymour but she was more well-known as an always smiling, friendly and happy lady with genuine heart of gold who never said a cross word about anyone. She married Glen Holcomb of Seymour in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, on August 15, 2006, and they continued to live in Seymour and build a life together. Velda was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Davis in August 2006. She leaves behind her loving husband, Glen Holcomb of the home in Seymour; her children, Sonya Bennett and husband Dennis, of Seymour; Denise Davis of Seymour; and Carl Splain and wife Joanna, of Hartville, Missouri; stepchildren, Glen Holcomb Jr. and wife Michele, of Seymour; Darlene Rudner of Springfield; and Sandy Schroeder of Seymour; eleven grandchildren, Josh Pyle and wife Kati, of Mansfield, Missouri; Doug Pyle and wife Kristen, of Hartville; Braden Splain of Hartville; Emily Splain of Lebanon, Missouri; Grace Rudner and Drew Rudner of Springfield; Kya Wyatt, Kaleb Wyatt, Carla Williams, David Williams and Hope Schroeder, all of Seymour; her father, Howard L. Davis of Seymour; sister, Marsha Glenn and husband Johnny, of Strafford, Missouri; brother, Randy Davis and wife Becky, of Norwood, Missouri; and brother Gary Davis and wife Gale, of Hartville; nieces, nephews and extended family; and countless friends and neighbors. Velda will be remembered for her love of road trips to anywhere and adventurous spirit that took her everywhere. She was a hard-working woman who loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and adoring grandmother; a dear sister and loyal friend. Velda’s caring ways set an example for her children and created a lifetime of memories and moments that will be treasured. Hearts are broken but we celebrate her life and accomplishments and the legacy she leaves behind. She will be so sadly missed by family and all who were blessed enough to call her a friend.
