For the last few years, she had made her home in Conway, Missouri. Velda made her profession of faith in Christ when she was twelve years old, and later became a member of the Lebanon Church of the Nazarene. After moving to Conway, she attended Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. Early in her life she enjoyed raising animals, especially chickens, calves, and rabbits. She also liked watching game shows on television and writing poetry and short stories. Her greatest joys came from spending time with her grandchildren.
