Velma D. Jensen (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Velma Doine Wilson Jensen was born in Montrose, CO on September 5, 1941 to Edward Eugene Wilson and Doine Robertson Wilson. At the age of 82 years, five months, and 14 days, she passed into the arms of God on February 20, 2024.
As a very small baby, Velma and her parents moved to Buffalo, OK due to WWII. She spent her younger years there, then they moved to Alva, OK, where she finished her school years and graduated in 1959. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior when she was five years old and tried to serve Him daily her entire life. She was a faithful member of the Assemblies of God Church, and for the last 16 years, she was an active part of Bolivar First Assembly of God.
Velma attended two years at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, then married the love of her life, (Elmer) Joe Jensen on July 16, 1961, in Alva, OK. Together they had three, (sometime) wonderful, children. They moved with their family from Alva, to Woodward, then to Enid. Velma went to Northwestern Oklahoma State University to finish her teaching degree. She taught for five years in Enid. Once the children were out of high school, the couple moved to Overland Park, KS. There, Velma received her Early Childhood Education degree at UMKC and UCM, then taught in the Kansas City, MO school district for 16 years.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Harry and Thelma Jensen; and her grandparents. She is survived by her husband Joe of Buffalo; her daughter, JoVonda and husband Matt Merrell of Shawnee, KS; two sons, Rodney and wife Kelly Jensen of Bolivar, MO and Gary and wife Mickey Jensen of Concord, NC; 18 grandchildren, Caleb Merrell, Aaron Merrell, Hannah and Noah Smith, Kaila and Daniel Dawson, Marissa and Alex Moffatt, Bryce and Kelsey Jensen, Emily and Dustin Dalton, Josiah and Tressa Jensen, Lydia Jensen, Nathanael Jensen, Phillip Jensen, Quincy Jensen, Anna Jensen, Grace Jensen, Chandler Jensen, Chelsea & Brady Burke, Chloe Jensen, and Christopher Jensen; 12 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; her sister, Lorene and husband Merlin Phillips; and three brothers-in-law, Lynn and Judy Jensen, Dub and Rosemary Jensen, and Vin and Michelle Jensen. She also leaves a host of other relatives, friends, and her Church family.
