Vera Bunn (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Vera Lee Bunn, age 83, was born in Violet Hill, Arkansas and passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Citizens Memorial Hospital, in Bolivar, Missouri.
Vera was born on September 16, 1934, to William and Zelma (Cooper) Blevins. She grew up in a home with five brothers and one sister. As a child, she worked with the family in the cotton fields—hoeing, picking, and sacking the cotton. At the age of 12, she and her mother moved to Neosho, Missouri.
After graduating from Neosho High School, she worked at Firestone Tire store as a clerk and in the office of Sales Memorial Hospital in Neosho. Later, she would serve lunches at the Field Elementary School. A friend introduced her to Tommy Bunn. They would be united in marriage on December 23, 1953 with 45½ yrs. together and to that union would come two sons.
Vera, Tommy, and their two sons moved to Aurora, Missouri in 1962. She began working at A&A Manufacturing of Aurora in 1964 and then the Marionville Garment factory in 1973 from which she retired. She remained in Aurora following the death of Tommy in 1999. She was already a grandma at that time and would soon become a great-grandma.
In December 2010, following an accidental fall and a broken arm, she moved to Bolivar, Missouri. After a series of more illnesses, she moved to Parkview Residential Care Center of Bolivar in May 2012. That was her residence at the time of her death caused by a significant heart attack.
Vera‘s greatest accomplishment was that of a homemaker where she instilled her values and her faith. She liked to sew, garden, work puzzles, and word search books. She also like to complete crossword puzzles, play cards and various games. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Aurora where she attended Sunday School, WMU meetings, and many class parties.
She enjoyed her time at Parkview. She liked making new friends, attending worship service, playing bingo and anticipating what her prize might be, watching the birds in the huge cage, getting a manicure and a permanent, sitting outside and visiting during nice weather, and going out to eat. Hamburgers and Pizza were her favorites.
She was family-driven. Her greatest joy in life was when family would come to see her. She was thrilled when she would see her sons, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Spending time with them superseded all other activities. Right up until her last breath family was her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her five brothers and one sister. She was the last child of the Blevins children.
She is survived by her sons; Gregory T. Bunn and his wife Renay, of Bolivar, Kevin Bunn, and his wife, Denise, of Wichita, Kansas. Other survivors include three grandchildren; Matthew Bunn, and his wife, Vicki, of Bolivar, Sarita Vernon, and husband, Tony, of Bolivar, and Seth Bunn and wife, Nicki, of Ozark, Missouri, 10 great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, her Parkview family, and a host of friends.
