Vera Mae Gorden (Bolivar)'s Obituary
On Friday September 7, 2018,Vera Mae Gorden, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 89.
Vera was born on March 4, 1929 in Halfway, Missouri to Fred and Winifred Quick. She graduated from Halfway High School in 1947.
She married Lowell Farmer on August 31,1947. Together, they joyfully raised four children; Brenda (Tom) Mundinger of Overland Park, Kansas, Darrell (Michelle) Farmer of West Des Moines, Iowa, Joyce Smith of Springfield, Missouri, and Cheryl (Pete) McDonald of Olathe, Kansas. They shared 43 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 1989.
In 1991, she married Louis Gorden. They shared 21 years of marriage and companionship until his passing in 2012.
Vera is survived by her children and their spouses, step-son Ben (Karen) Gorden of Halfway, Missouri, brothers Fred G. Quick of Scottsdale, Arizona, Gene (Reva) Quick of Morrisville, Missouri, sister Irene Mayfield of Bolivar, Missouri, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husbands, father and mother-in-law, Lonie and Bethel Farmer, and sisters Anna Belle Brehe and Floradelle Barham.
Vera was saved at the age of 24 at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. She remained a faithful member of Southside Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar, Missouri until she was no longer able to attend due to illness.
Vera, also known as Mom, Grandmother, and Mimi, was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a homemaker and managed House of Fabrics & Russell Stovers Candies in Mission, Kansas. She was caring, loving, hardworking, and kind. She loved being with family and friends. You would most always find her happy and thankful for her many blessings. She cherished her time and memories of growing up on a farm with loving parents and siblings. She was a talented seamstress who made many of her children's clothing. She was a wonderful cook and everyone was always welcome around her table to enjoy a home cooked meal. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. You could often find her with a good book as she loved to read.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 1 pm at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri, with Elder Efton Piper officiating. Visitation will be at 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Polk, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to CMH Hospice.
