Vern Syphert's Obituary
Vern Robert Syphert, age 68, of Bolivar, Missouri departed this life on Tuesday evening, December 27, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Springfield, Missouri after a courageous fight.
Vern was born on December 27, 1943 in Hill City, Kansas the son of Sherman Tidwell Syphert and Edith Louise (Ambrosier) Syphert. Vern?s parents moved the family from Hill City to the town of Bolivar in 1960.
Vern received his diploma from Bolivar High School in 1961 and went to work as a mechanic at Bill Roberts Chevrolet. He worked as a mechanic at the dealership until 1972 when he got a job with Southwest Electric as a linesman mechanic. From there he was able to land a job with Associated Wholesale Grocers driving an eighteen-wheeler until he retired after twenty years employment.
On December 27, 1984 he was united in marriage to Etta Dryer in Miami, Oklahoma. While no children were born from this union, both Vern and Etta had children of their own. They loved and cared for each others children as if they were their own.
Vern was not into the ?frills? in life, he enjoyed the simple pleasures. He loved working with his hands, spending time in his shop fixing and restoring old tractors. Vern enjoyed going to tractor pulls and shooting guns. Vern was an outdoorsman. He would take advantage of every opportunity to return to the Western Kansas grassland to hunt Pheasants. He loved the outdoors and all the majesty that it displays. Vern was of the Baptist faith and knew his Lord and Savior.
Vern is preceded in death by his parents; Sherman and Edith Syphert, and his brother; Johnny Syphert.
Surviving is his wife; Etta Syphert of the home, a son; Michael Syphert and his wife Julie of Bolivar, a daughter; Deborah Maynard and her husband Ray of Bolivar, a sister; Evelyn Cossins of Bolivar, two sister-in-laws; Kathy Smith and her husband Dave of Independence, Missouri, and Betty Hull and her husband Tommy of Clinton, Missouri, a brother-in-law; Buck Hamilton and his wife Betty of Clinton, four grandchildren; Jeff Welch of Bolivar, Julie Donnell and her husband A.J. of Eureka, California, Jamie Syphert of Bolivar and Brandon Syphert of Bolivar, two great-grandchildren; Logan Welch of Bolivar and Abby Welch of Bolivar, Etta?s children; Debra Williams and her husband Ron of Dogwood, Missouri, and Vernon Dryer and his wife Terry of Fair Grove, Missouri, six step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service for Vern will be held at 10:00am Friday, December 30, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Danny Vance officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri.
