Verna Davis' Obituary
erna Bolian Davis, daughter of Homer A. and Arlena (Garner) Bolian, was born January 20, 1920, in Hartville, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in Hartville Care Center in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, two months, and thirteen days. On January 18, 1936, she was united in marriage to Jacob Solomon “Jake” Davis, and to this union three sons and two daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake, on October 11, 2001; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; her parents; two sons-in-law; a brother, Elmer Bolian; and a sister Mildred Bolian. Verna is survived by three sons, James “Tony” Davis, and his wife, Marcia; John Davis and his wife, Sandy, all of Hartville, Missouri; Gary Davis, and his wife, Ann, of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Marcia Fritz, of Edwardsville, Kansas, and Polly Taber, of Hartville, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, June Davis, and Vula Hogan, both of Hartville, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. She was born and raised in Hartville and attended the Glenwood School. After she met and married Jake they lived in several locations including Detroit, Michigan, the states of Kansas, and Texas and in the late 1980’s they returned to Hartville to make their home. Verna was a gracious Christian woman and was a member of the Church of Christ. She centered her life on her family and loved them all dearly. She had a very kind heart and was always willing to help others by taking them her homemade food. She and Jake owned stores at St. George, High Point, and Rock Store, where they had many music parties. In her spare time she enjoyed collecting dolls and sewing clothes for them, going to yard sales and auctions, and listening to gospel music. She also loved playing cards and dominoes with her friends. Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville. Burial will be in the Durbin Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri. Memorials to the Durbin Cemetery and the Hartville Care Center Resident Activity Fund may be made through the funeral home. Return to top
