Vernon "Butch" LaMont (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Vernon Marvin “Butch” LaMont, son of Marvin LeRoy and Marie Alta Ippen LaMont, was born November 5, 1937, in Oregon, Illinois. He departed this life Thursday, September 1, 2016, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, nine months, and six days.
On October 24, 1991, he was united in marriage to Anita Sue Hawk, and they shared twenty-four years before her passing on December 26, 2015.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lynn LaMont; and two sisters, Barbara Remmers, and Beverly Meinert.
“Butch”, as he was called by his family and friends, is survived by two step-daughters, Jan Hutton, and her husband, Mike, of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Johnna Vandelicht, and her husband, Harold, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Crystal Henson, Joey Mills, and Travis Hine; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Warren LaMont, and his wife, Jeannie, of Pecatonica, Illinois, and Wayne LaMont, and his wife, Judy, of Rockford, Illinois; two sisters, Dawn Marie Newman, and her husband, Paul, of Pecatonica, Illinois, and Janet Schryver, and her husband, Lyle, of Polo, Illinois; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Pecatonica, Illinois area, and graduated from Pecatonica High School. He then entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully as a paratrooper for over twenty years. He earned a number of awards, badges and medals during his time of service and was presented the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars. After retiring from the Army, Butch and Sue made their home in Lebanon, Missouri. Butch worked for Noble Hudson and Sons Feed and Seed for twenty-five years before retiring, and then did deliveries for O’Reilly Auto Parts for a few years.
Butch had attended the Congregational Church in Pecatonica in his younger years.
He was a very active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4107 of Lebanon and had served as Quartermaster for a number of years. He was also a member of the Lebanon Elks Lodge #2557, the I.O.O.F. Lodge # 192, the American Legion Post # 43, the D.A.V. and Vietnam Veterans Organization. He also did volunteer work with Meals on Wheels. He liked sports of all kinds and early in his life had played baseball and football.
Butch was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated soldier, a patriotic citizen, and a good friend to many.
Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 4107, and left at the funeral home.
