Vernon Glen Massey (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Vernon Glen Massey was born October 9, 1930 in Competition, Missouri to Bland and Mary Ethel Detherace Massey. He passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026 in Webco Manor in Marshfield, Missouri at the age of ninety-five years, five months and twenty-two days of age.
Vernon was raised in Laclede and Wright counties. When he was a teenager, Vernon moved with his family to the Missouri Bootheel where his father was preaching. After a few years there, it was on to serve in the United States Army. He served his time in Alaska before returning to the Lebanon area.
Vernon established his career as a carpenter, building many homes in Laclede and Wright counties. He was known for his attention to detail and craftsmanship and greatly enjoyed what he did.
On Christmas Eve in 1953, Vernon married his true love and best friend, Susie Lavon Moore. For over seventy-two years they have built a life of love and special memories, while raising their two children.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Bland and Mary Massey; his brothers, Leslie Massey, Verlin Massey and Dee Massey; and his sister, Vera Admire.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susie; his two children, Russell Massey and his wife Vicky and Avis Simmons and her husband Bobby; five grandchildren, Megan Crews and her husband Jason, Jennifer Parker and her husband Jason, Tyler Simmons and his wife Kelsey, Kelsey Curtis and her husband Dustin and Lillie Brown and her husband Cory; his great grandchildren, Makenna, Quenton, Meleah, Tatum, Justin, Haley, Sutton, Kenley, Charlie, Addilyn and Kason and one great-great-grandchild, Avery; his siblings, George Massey, Junior Massey, David Howard Massey and Carolyn Martin; and other friends and relatives that will truly miss him.
Vernon had a personal relationship with God and read his Bible daily.
He loved his family very much and enjoyed being with his grandchildren. They made many memories together going out on the boat and fishing. They spent many hours at the lake.
Vernon was a man that kept his hands busy and was many things to many people. Most importantly he was a cherished husband, a wonderful father, and a treasured grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed and his memories will stay in the hearts of those he loved.
Funeral services for Vernon Glen Massey will be Friday, April 3 at 10 a.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, April 2, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in McBride Cemetery.
A Memorial to the McBride Cemetery has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
