Vesta Odette Kasterke (Seymour)'s Obituary
Vesta Kasterke, adored mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, departed this earthly life on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri. Vesta was ninety-five beautiful years, ten months and twenty-six days wise at the time of her passing.
One of three children, she was born Vesta Odette Hosiner on September 11, 1920, in Seymour, to George and Della Mae (Crockett) Hosiner. At the age of eleven, Vesta was converted at Lone Star Freewill Baptist Church by evangelists, Frank Splinder and Claude Splinder. Vesta was baptized in a creek in Matney Holler by the Reverend Pete Clouse. In later years, she attended Seymour Freewill Baptist Church. Vesta was a member of the Seymour High School Class of 1937. Later that same year, on October 6, Vesta was united in marriage to Charles ‘Scott’ Kasterke by the Reverend O.L. Claxton in his home north of Diggins. To this union, a daughter and son were born. The Kasterkes made their home on their dairy farm near Seymour, and lovingly raised their family. In May of 2000, Scott and Vesta were recognized for their combined 135 years of service to the Lord by Lone Star Freewill Baptist Church. Vesta was a devoted wife, mother and full-time homemaker. When she did work outside the home, it was at Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory and then Scotty’s Market in Fordland. Vesta loved to crochet and knit in her spare time. She was a very crafty person and enjoyed making things for friends. The Kasterkes shared sixty-three blessed years together before Scott’s passing on September 20, 2000. In addition to her parents and husband, Scott, Vesta was preceded in death by two grandsons, Eric Kasterke and Kevin Rudolph; her brothers, Fred Hosiner and Philip Hosiner; and son-in-law, Gerald Rudolph. Vesta leaves behind her daughter, Una Marie Rudolph of Diggins, Missouri, and her son, Scotty Kasterke and wife, Judy, of Fordland, Missouri; five grandchildren, Gena Cooper and husband, Michael, of Seymour; Kelly Kellum and husband, Melvin, of Rogersville, Missouri; Lessli Pruett and husband, Paul, of Seymour; Stan Kasterke and wife, Susie, of Rogersville; and Darin Kasterke, of Springfield; twelve grandchildren, Zachary Thomas and wife, Heather, of Marshfield, Missouri; Whitney Thomas of Strafford, Missouri; Josh Kellum and wife, Chasten, of Seymour; Kaylee Terry and husband, Grant, of Seymour; Shane Pruett of Seymour; Christy O’Dell and husband, Scott, of Rogersville; Jeromy Rudolph of Seymour; Erica Lafferty and husband, Matthew, of Marshfield; Lauren Goodin and husband, Nic, of Nixa, Missouri; Mike Cooper and wife, Amy, of Springfield, Missouri; Mark Cooper and wife, Crystal, of Seymour; and Shoji McGhee and wife, Leigh Ann, of Springfield; (15) great-great-grandchildren, Hunter, Braylee, Braden, Brighton, Trevor, Taylor, Keegan, Luke, Bailey, Rowan, August, McKenzie, Makayla, Liam, Eva, and two on the way; and many, many dear friends. Vesta Odette Kasterke will be fondly remembered as a ‘Saint of a Lady.’ She set an example of home, love of family and love of the Lord, for her children and grandchildren. Vesta’s ninety-five blessed years of life have offered countless precious memories to be treasured by family and friends. Vesta will be sadly missed by all.
