Veula Marie Pendergraft (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Veula Marie Pendergraft, daughter of John Newton and Bertha Bertie Jackson Smittle, was born September 6, 1917, near Morgan, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, July 5, 2013, in Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-five years, nine months, and twenty-nine days.
On December 30, 1939, she was united in marriage to Edwin Rowe “John” Pendergraft, and to this union one daughter was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, on September 17, 1994; and three sisters, Vera Schultz, Veda Sanders, and Berniece Strutton.
Veula is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Snow, and her husband, Gary, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Tammie Burns, and her husband, Andy, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; a grandson, Brian Snow, and his wife, Shelia, of Lebanon, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Jordan Burns, Justin Burns, and his wife, Carly, Kirsten and Colton Snow; a sister, Bonnie Mendenhall, of Seguin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Juanita Pendergraft, of Buffalo, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Morgan, Missouri community. Early in her life, she worked at the Nelson Hotel in Lebanon for a few years. After she and John were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area, and lovingly raised their daughter. Throughout the years, Veula was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family.
In September of 1931, Veula was saved into the Morgan Baptist Church, where she remained a member until 1952. She then transferred her membership to Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lebanon.
She was an excellent cook, enjoyed making special meals for her family and loved having a family dinner at least once a week for as long as she could. She enjoyed working puzzles, and watching her favorite game show, “Wheel of Fortune”. She also liked growing beautiful house plants. Her family was very dear to her and she enjoyed spending time with them. She especially liked having time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Veula was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
Memorial donations to Tabernacle Baptist Church may be made through the funeral home.
Friends may call at their convenience in the funeral home, but no formal visitation is scheduled.
