Vincil Wood (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Vincil was born in Shelby County, Missouri, on August 12, 1921, the youngest child, and only son, of Marvin Monroe and Cora Mae (Smith) Wood. He and his sister Mary Lillian were raised on a farm in rural Shelbyville and attended grade school at Weedan Country School. Vincil graduated from Shelbyville High School with the Class of 1939.
After High School he moved to Quincy, Illinois and worked for Moormans and Davis – Clever. He later started at Quincy City Bus Lines – the youngest and first single man hired. While in Quincy he met Loretta Rose Kientzle, and on February 15, 1947 they were married in St. Louis, Missouri. Vincil bought a farm in Shelby County and farmed for 25 years while he also started driving for Continental Trailways.
Vincil and Loretta are the parents of three children, Judith Kathryn Mesmer, of Bethel, Missouri; Sharon Wood (deceased); and Myron Michael Wood, and his wife Sandy, of Bolivar. He was a proud Grandpa of seven grandchildren, Chris Mesmer, and wife Lisa, of Columbia, Missouri; Kathy Jackson and husband Mark, of Bethel; Aaron Mesmer and wife Gina, of Shelbyville; Brian Mesmer and wife Staci, of Bethel; Karmon Douglass and husband Curt, of Shelbyville; Brittany Miller and husband Blake, of Mansfield, Missouri; and Shawn Wood, of Bolivar. Vincil also had thirteen great-grandchildren.
He and Loretta movied to the Bolivar area in 1976 and he retired in 1983 from Trailways. He then started a trucking business and retired from Bolivar Discount Lumber at the age of 80. He and Loretta were married 58 years at the time of her death in 2005. He was later united with Helene McDaniel in 2011. She survives.
Vincil is also survived by his daughter Judy; his son, Michael, and wife Sandy; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his niece Joanne Willey Miller; three step-children, Kevin Rossiter, and his wife Becky, Peggy Tennessen, Amy Jo Schleininger, and her husband Denny, and all their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Mary Lillian, and her husband Carl Willey; his wife Loretta; his daughter Sharon; and his son-in-law Chris Mesmer.
Vincil loved his horses and attending the Ava Celebration, where he only missed one year, in the last 44 years. He was very proud of his family, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up.
