Vinita Claxton's Obituary
Vinita Claxton
Vinita Claxton, daughter of Felix Jasper and Martha Ellen Alford Cantrell, was born January 8, 1920 in Wright County, Missouri near Mansfield and departed this life February 29, 2012 in Rocky Ridge Manor, Mansfield, Missouri at the age of ninety-two years, one month and 21 days.
She was united in marriage to Efton Claxton on September 25, 1938 and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Glen Cantrell and a nephew, Bob Cantrell.
Vinita is survived by a great-nephew, Tim Cantrell and his wife, Maria of Sarasota, Florida; a great-niece, Terri Staude of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; two great-great nieces, Shaila Cantrell and Lindsay Sommerville; cousins, Jess & Eva Burney; lifelong friend, Gloria Patti and special friends, Jenny Adamson and Alice Schmachtenberger along with many other friends who will miss “Ma” very much.
Vinita was a lifelong resident of the Mansfield area. She attended London School and graduated from Mansfield High School in the Class of 1938. She was a homemaker and had also been a foreman in the fitting department at the Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening.
Vinita had made her profession of faith of Christ when she was nine years old and was a member of the Mansfield First Baptist Church.
Even though she had different health problems for many years, including not being able to talk above a whisper for over 7 years and had to where braces to be able to walk, Vinita was always lifting up the Lord to as many people as she could and asking about everyone she talked to “Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?” She wanted everyone to know that even when there obstacles in life that seem to be impossible to endure that if you know Jesus and trust in him, that all things are possible and He will be there with you.
It is hard to be sad at “Ma’s” passing because she was ready to go and had been ready for many years. We will miss her but we know that she and Efton are having that glad reunion day.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 3, 2012 in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Mansfield with burial to follow in the Mansfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Mansfield First Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice Compassus.
