Virginia Gladden's Obituary
Virginia Marguerite Gladden, daughter of Richard and Francis Toliver Thompson, was born June 25, 1919, in Versailles, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, January 2, 2008, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, six months, and seven days. On December 27, 1943, she was united in marriage to Thomas Earle Gladden, and to this union one daughter and three sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas, on December 31, 1993; a son, Mike Gladden; and a grandson, Damon; Virginia is survived by a daughter, Linda Attison, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Thomas Gladden II, and his wife, Suzann, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, and Pat Gladden, and his wife, Donna, of Eldridge, Missouri; a stepson, Bob Gladden, of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Thompson, of Lampe, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Versailles area and graduated from Versailles High School. She moved to St. Louis in the 1940’s and worked as a Bell Telephone Company operator. During this time she met and married Thomas and they then made their home in the Fort Worth, Texas area from 1948 until 1955. The family relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a few years before moving to Laclede County, Missouri in 1959. After having moved to the Lebanon area and in addition to being a devoted and loving homemaker to her family, Virginia also worked as a housekeeper for the Munger Moss Motel and later as a sales clerk for the Walnut Bowl Factory Store. Virginia had made her peace with her Lord and Savior and was prepared to meet her Maker. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family and friends. She had a great love for animals of all kinds and had made a home for many animals throughout the years. She also possessed a delightful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren. Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and all that she accomplished and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Grange Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
