Virginia Hopper's Obituary
Virginia Ruth Hopper, age 86, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at her home in Bolivar. She was born July 22, 1922 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Samuel Courts Redford and Helen Ruth (Ford) Redford. She was a graduate of the Bolivar High School Class of 1940. She then went on to college to graduate from Southwest Baptist University in 1942, from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1944 and received a Master’s Degree in Music from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1948. Virginia was a College Professor at Southwest Baptist University from 1967 until her retirement. She also taught at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, Bethel College in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was a member of the PEO, a Community Center Volunteer, Chairman of the Polk County Cancer Memorial Program, Friends of the Polk County Library, and the First Baptist Church of Bolivar, Missouri. She also played for services at the First Baptist Church from High School thru College and at other Churches and graded choirs for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister; Carolyn Redford and a brother; John Morgan Redford. Virginia is survived by her four sisters; Jeanette Redford of Pell City, Alabama, Rosemary McCord and her husband Al of Norman, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Teters of Bolivar, Missouri, Sylvia Peavy of Buford, Georgia, three brothers; Samuel Courts Redford, Jr. and his wife Joan of Los Angeles, California, David Eugene Redford and his wife Joan of Tucker, Georgia and William Robert Redford and his wife Pat of Decatur, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Ron Kemp and Rev. Billy Russell officiating. Music will be “Close To Thee” by Rose Mary Owens and Brad Wommack, “Lord’s Prayer” by George Baker and “At The End Of The Road” by Steve Whisler with Bill Brown playing the piano for all the special musical selections. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Gordon Dutile, Dan Cochran, Larry Hodges, Don Baker, Rodney Reeves and Ed Clark. Visitation will be from 5:30-6:30pm, Tuesday evening at the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar.
