Virginia Hough's Obituary
Virginia Jean Hough, daughter of Edwin Martin and Virginia Gertrude Miller Woodfill, was born April 22, 1923, in Springfield, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, September 16, 2007, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, four months, and twenty-four days. On November 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Herbert E. Hough, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. Her parents preceded her in death. Jean is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Herbert, of the home; a daughter, Jennifer J. Webb, and her husband, Bruce, of Columbia, Missouri; a son, Herbert Hough, Jr., and his wife, Anne, of Brookline, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Barbara Webb, and her husband, Seth Warn, of Lawrence, Kansas, Susan Randerson, and her husband, Patrick, of Reston, Virginia, Michael Webb, of Columbia, Missouri, Charlotte Hough and Sarah Hough, both of Brookline, Massachusetts; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Lucy Randerson; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. She was born in Springfield, Missouri, raised in Aurora, Missouri, and then moved with her family to Lebanon, in 1936. She was graduated from the Lebanon High School in the Class of 1941, and attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where she graduated in 1945. She then was employed as a social worker for a few years. After she and Herbert were married, they made their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their children. Throughout the years, Jean was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Jean made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Lebanon, where she played in the bell choir. She was active in the Libra Club and Chapter EO of P.E.O. for several years. She played the violin, supported the arts, and encouraged her children and grandchildren in their musical pursuits. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and MU Tigers fan and loved watching their games. She and Herbert enjoyed traveling and also liked to go snow skiing. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007, in the First Congregational Church, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to the First Congregational Church may be made through the funeral home.
