Virginia Pearson's Obituary
Virginia Ellen Pearson, daughter of T. E. And Suzie Ellen Smith Humphreys, was born March 15, 1915, near Agnes, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, January 26, 2007, in Christian Healthcare North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, ten months, and eleven days. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clay and Robert Humphreys; a sister, Lucille Simpson; and two brothers-in-law, Floyd White, and Owen Simpson. Virginia is survived by a daughter, Barbara E. Correll, of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Lillian White, of Grovespring, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Esther Humphreys, and Frieda Humphreys, both of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Agnes, Missouri community and attended Cantrell School. She graduated with honors from Competition High School in the Class of 1933. Soon after graduating, Virginia and Murrell were married. She then taught at Conner School and at Upper O’Dell School for the next few years, until Barbara was born in 1938. The family then made their home in Idaho and Nevada before finally settling in Kansas City, Missouri. There Virginia worked as a comptometer operator in the auditing department for Sears Roebuck Company for eighteen years, and lovingly raised her daughter. After retiring, she returned to Lebanon where she kept busy helping others, and also worked at H. D. Lee Company and as a sales clerk at the Ozark Gift Shop. Virginia was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and attended Hayes Street Church of Christ and the Montreal Church of Christ. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the W.P.F.A., the Orla Extension Club, the O.A.T.S. program, and also delivered meal-on-wheels for several years. She was an excellent cook and always seemed to know what people needed most, whether it was a visit, a chauffeur to a doctor’s appointment, or a mess of Poke greens and cornbread. Virginia was a loving mother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Lebanon. Burial will be in the McBride Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to the McBride Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund may be made through the funeral home.
