Vula Hogan's Obituary
ula Hogan, daughter of H.A. and Liza Arlena Garner Bolian, was born January 27, 1922 near Hartville, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, May 8, 2008 in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-six years, three months, and eleven days. On March 28, 1944, Vula was united in marriage to Marion Eldon Hogan, and together they shared forty-seven years until his passing on December 24, 1991. Vula was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Elmer Bolian Sr.; and two sisters, Mildred Bolian and Verna Davis. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Hogan and his wife Carol, of Springfield, Missouri, and Lavon Hogan and his wife Gwen, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter, Betty Palmer and her husband Doug, of Cimarron, New Mexico; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, June Davis of Hartville, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Leroy Hogan and his wife, Glennis, of Grovespring, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Letha Findley, of Wawoka, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Vula was born in the High Point area of Wright County. She spent her younger years living at home and working at the High Point store. After she and Eldon were married, they made their home on a farm East of Grovespring where she worked alongside Eldon tending to the farm. In 1979, Vula and Eldon moved to Hartville where she has resided over the years. The last few years she was in the Hartville Care Center, where she enjoyed being apart of all the activities. Vula enjoyed working with her husband helping him operate Hogan’s Radio Repair shop in Hartville. Vula had professed her faith in Christ and in her early years had attended Elk Creek Missionary Baptist Church; she also enjoyed attending various singings around the area with her family. Vula was a giving person who always had a good word to say about others, and was a good and kind mom to her children. In her spare time, Vula enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers as well as gardening and canning. She also liked to work on a variety of crafts and had a knack for making beautiful flower arrangements and working word puzzles. Vula was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We celebrate her life for the way she lived it and we will cherish the wonderful memories we have of her. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville. Burial will be in the Shaddy Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4 - 6:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri.
