Vurlis Marie Jones (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Vurlis Marie Jones, daughter of John Thomas and Grace Grimes Young, was born November 13, 1922, near Eldridge, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, November 12, 2014, in Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, eleven months, and thirty days.
On October 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Leroy James Jones, and to this union one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy, on September 2, 2010; a son, Gary Lew Jones; a daughter-in-law, Julie Jones; a brother, Delmar Young; and a sister, Hazel Waterman.
Vurlis is survived by a grandson, Alan David Jones, of the State of Iowa; a granddaughter, Sherry Kelley, and her husband, Brian, of Oak Park, Illinois; three sisters, Julie J. Burns, of Decaturville, Missouri, Lois Mott, of Quincy, Illinois, and Mary Riggs, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Joann Jennings, and her husband, John, and Peggy Arnold, and her husband, David, all of Lebanon, Missouri; several great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Eldridge, Missouri community. After she and Leroy moved to San Francisco, California for a few years, and then moved to a farm near Walnut Grove, Missouri. They moved to Quad Cities, Iowa for a time before making their home in Illinois, where they owned and operated a music store. Throughout the years, Vurlis was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. In the 1970’s Vurlis and Leroy moved to the Lake of the Ozarks for a time, and then retired to Lebanon, in 1987.
Vurlis had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Living Water Pentecostal Church in Eldridge, Missouri.
In her spare time she enjoyed listening to music, spending time at the Lake, cooking fish, and growing beautiful flowers. Her family was always very important to her and she greatly enjoyed family gatherings.
Vurlis was a loving grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-one years.
