Walter Wesley Dodd
Walter Wesley Dodd, son of Walter Montgomery and Wana Lorene Dodd, was born February 1, 1938 in Salinas, California. He departed this life Sunday, October 23, 2011, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years, eight months, and twenty-two days.
On July 15, 1960, Walter married his true love, Maritta A. Hoskins and to this union three sons and one daughter were born.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents.
He was survived by his loving wife, Maritta of the home; his sons, William W. Dodd and his wife Sara Garcia-Dodd of Seymour, Missouri; Stephen R. Dodd and Denise Benoit of Salinas, California; Matthew M. Dodd and wife Catherine Morgan of Portland, Oregon; his daughter Sheila M. Francis and her husband James of South Lake Tahoe, California; seven grandchildren, Sara Dodd and Daphne Dodd of Seymour, Missouri, Zachary Francis, Jacob Francis and Hayley Francis, all of South Lake Tahoe, California, Wesley Dodd and Morgan Dodd of Portland, Oregon and his sister, Beverly Spence and husband Charles, of Phoenix, Arizona; along with a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
A life long resident and native of Salinas, California, Walter loved to explore the Sieera Nevadas, trout fishing with friends, but his passion was playing guitar. He was a graduate of Salinas High School and post grad of Hartnell College. He was a supervisor at the United States Post Office for over 35 years.
Walter had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of the Northside Assembly of God Church in Salinas for nearly 60 years. Walter served his church as Deacon and Treasurer for many years. He humbly served on the PTA while his children were in school and lovingly raised his children in the faith. God blessed Walter with the gift of music and he shared it with his family, friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association and the California Bluegrass Association.
Walter was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish all the wonderful memories he created for his family and many friends. There may be a silence in the string section, but we will always remember the sound of his voice and the harmony he brought to our lives.
Funeral Services will be held on November 3, 2011 at 1p.m. at the Northside Assembly of God, burial to follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, under the direction of Healey Mortuary, Salinas, California. Visitation will be held from 4:30-6:30 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour, Missouri, with a reception and fellowship at the home of William Dodd, 422 Spring Creek Road, Seymour, Missouri.
