Walter Roy Lockhart (Seymour)'s Obituary
Walter Roy Lockhart, son of Burdette and Lena May (Smith) Lockhart, was born on March 8, 1922 in Colorado. He departed this life on October 26, 2013 in Houston House in Houston, Missouri at the age of ninety-one years, five months and eighteen days.
Born in Colorado in back of a cover wagon; Walter lived in various locations during his younger years before settling down in the Seymour area. He moved to Houston, Missouri in 2009 to be closer to his family. On July 18, 1941 Walter united in marriage to Ruby Fay Silvey and to this union three sons and a daughter was born.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty-four years, Ruby Lockhart; his son Bill Lockhart; his grandson Jeff Grove; his brothers Lyle, Melvin, Raymond, Floyd, Willard and Henry Lockhart; and his sister Lucille Boring.
Walter is survived by his sons Don Lockhart and wife Kathy of Birch Tree, Missouri, Howard Lockhart and wife Pam of West Plains, Missouri; his daughter Janice Grove and husband Edsel of Courtland, Nebraska; his grandchildren Donette Stump, Rob Lockhart, Julie Moore, Bruce Lockhart, Boyd Lockhart, Shelly Ritter, Brian Grove, Heather Grove, and Vanessa Lockhart; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of Ragsdale. Walter humbly served his Lord Jesus giving back to our community and reaching out to others in need. Walter was the Seymour Police Chief for nearly ten years during the 1970’s. He also worked as a livestock dealer and this led to his passion of trading dogs and guns. He was a well-known coon hunter and spent hours telling his tales at Speedy’s Café. Along with his morning stop for biscuit and gravy at A-1 Diner. Walter also enjoyed playing Bingo at Houston House Nursing Home.
Walter Lockhart, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and a caring neighbor and friend will be greatly missed. We celebrate his life and accomplishment and will cherish the memories that he created for those who knew him.
