Walter Wingate (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Walter Ernst Wingate 70, of Bolivar, MO departed his earthly life on October 29, 2024 for a new adventure after living with pancreatic cancer and treating it his way instead of the doctor's standard form of treatments. As he told the doctors he wanted a quality of life over a quantity of life. He was born June 2, 1954 in California, MO at Latham Sanitarium the son of James J. and Elsie C. Hegg Wingate. He attended California R-1 Schools K-12 graduating in 1972. He was a member of the California United Church of Christ. During school he was a newspaper carrier for the Jefferson City News Tribune where he was their 1968 Inland Daily Press Association Suburban Carrier of the Year. He also worked at Wilson's Dairy Queen. After graduation he worked summers as a boxer at the Ralston Purina Turkey Processing plant. After high school he attended CMSU(UCM) at Warrensburg, Mo where he participated in the Honors Program and graduated Cum Laude in 1976 with a BSBA in General Management. He then moved to Kansas City, MO where he was the Accountant II in charge of the Accounting Department for 29 years and 20 months part time for MO DMH MRDD KC Reg
CTR(KCRO). He was married July 16, l994 in Concordia, MO at St Paul's Lutheran Church to Vicki C. Luetjen. He was a past member of the California Pinto Mustang Car Rally Club, an over 40 year member of the Kansas City Ski Club and past board secretary for the Trails Homeowners
Association. He enjoyed traveling, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, antiquing, estate sales, auctions,
collecting and deer hunting with his buddies at Jamestown, MO. He is survived by his wife Vicki,
stepson Zachary W. (Michelle)Brockman, granddaughter Zoe M. Brockman, sister Freda J. Wingate
(Leo) Hayes, sister in law Linda (Richard) Schnakenberg, brother in law Mark (Janet) Luetjen, four
nieces and two nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents and nephew Stephen J. Hayes.
He will be cremated and buried at the California United Church of Christ Cemetery in California, MO.
