Wanda Lakey's Obituary
Wanda Chloe Lakey, daughter of Bill and Gladys Martha (Hargis) Matney, was born February 23, 1947 in Seymour, Missouri; she departed this life Wednesday, November 22, 2006 in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of fifty-nine years, eight months, and twenty-six days. On July 3, 1987, she was married to Kenneth Lloyd Lakey, and for the past nineteen years, they had made their home together. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Grace Merritt; four brothers, Ernest, Willard, Billy Wayne, and Jackie Matney; as well as three sisters, Wilma Ince, Darlene Matney, and Vivian Matney. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of the home; three daughters, Marsha Dile, of Springfield, Missouri, Pam Merritt and her husband, James, of Diggins, Missouri, and Stacy Rippee and her husband, Gerald, of Seymour, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jonathon Topping, Matthew Topping, Patrisha Merritt, Brett Sherman, Taylor Grabher, and Ian Dile; three sisters, Oleta Codding and her son Scott, of Seymour, Missouri, Aniece Hemminger and her husband, Russell, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Olivia Williams, of Early, Texas; one brother, Lester Matney and his wife, Wilma, of Seymour, Missouri; as well as several nieces and nephews. Wanda spent all of her life in the Seymour area, and graduated from Seymour High School in the class of 1965. She had worked as a seamstress at Hagale Industries in Marshfield and also at H.D. Lee in Seymour. She was a member of the Cedar Gap Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her fellowship with her fellow church members. Throughout her battle with cancer, Wanda managed to keep a positive outlook on life, and made every moment count. Her family was a source of comfort and encouragement to her throughout her struggles. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, fishing, and collecting hummingbird memorabilia, but the one thing she enjoyed doing more than any other, was loving her family. Wanda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri.
