Wayne E. Barlow (Seymour)'s Obituary
Wayne Barlow, beloved husband of Beverly Barlow, unexpectedly departed this earthly life on Monday, May 18, 2015, at his home in rural Seymour, Missouri. Wayne was eighty-two years, six months and twenty days of age.
One of seven children, he was born Wayne Eugene Barlow on October 28, 1932, to Frank Wesley and Mary Nan (Smith) Barlow, in Mansfield, Missouri. He was raised in Mansfield and attended Mansfield schools. Wayne was a graduate of the Mansfield High School Class of 1950. After high school, he farmed and worked at the saw mill in Mansfield until joining the United States Navy in 1955. After a four-year enlistment in the “Regular” Navy, he attended Southwest Missouri State University (current day Missouri State University), where he acquired a Bachelor’s Degree. He later completed his Master’s Degree in Education from MSU. Wayne retired from the United States Naval Reserves in 1989. On June 19, 1959, he wed Beverly Jean Francka and to this union a son was born. The Barlows made their home in Seymour where, in 1960, Wayne worked as an Industrial Arts teacher for Seymour Schools. He finished his career in the school system in 1991, retiring as principal of Seymour High School. Wayne was active in the community as a member of the Seymour Lions Club, American Legion and Hazelwood Masonic Lodge. Wayne loved life and enjoyed doing a variety of things. He treasured his grandkids, especially his new great-grandson, Dawson, and spending time with them and family. His dog, Charlie, was his best buddy and could be seen in the truck with Wayne doing daily chores. Wayne loved the outdoors and being on the farm. The Coffee “Clutch,” (his morning coffee club) was a sunrise routine he truly enjoyed. Years ago, selling cars on Saturdays at Bob Barlow Chevrolet dealership in Seymour was a favorite pastime. When they could, Wayne and Beverly looked forward to lake trips, traveling, water skiing and playing Skip-Bo. Wayne was a teller of stories, both big and small. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wayne Barlow, on April 25, 2011; his two brothers, John Barlow and Harry Barlow; and sisters, Dorothy Wood and Reba Mummert. Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly J. Barlow of the home; granddaughter, Whitney Anderson of Seymour; granddaughter, Madison Barlow of Seymour; grandson, Johnathon Barlow and wife, Kayla, of Seymour; great-grandson, Dawson Anderson; sisters, Helen Moody of Seymour, and Mary Belle Edwards of Mansfield; daughter-in-law, Cindy Barlow; several nieces and nephews; and many more extended family, dear friends, comrades and neighbors. Wayne was a loving husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, educator and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and the many lives he influenced during his tenure as an educator. We will miss him dearly, but will always cherish the many wonderful memories we had together.
