Wayne Scheets (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Wayne Leslie Scheets, son of Loren Leslie and Flossie Alene Tracy Scheets, was born March 28, 1946, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, January 1, 2013, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-six years, nine months, and three days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Doyle Scheets; and a sister, Helen Scheets.
Wayne is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Wernex, of Overland Park, Kansas; two sons, Bryan Scheets, and his wife, Kimberly, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Jasen Scheets, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Amber, Chelsey, and Darrion; a brother, Lynn Scheets, and his wife, of Fairbury, Nebraska; a sister, Brenda Burns, of Overland Park, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Iowa and in the Kansas City, Kansas area. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and then attended Pittsburg College for one year. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1965, and served his country faithfully in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in ground combat. He was stationed stateside in the engineering division in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Texas, and retired after thirty years of service in 1995. He then moved back to Lebanon, Missouri, and made his home.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing with his children, collecting coins and military patches. He also liked studying genealogy and doing carpentry projects. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and particularly enjoyed his parents and granddaughters. His life was centered around the Army and he was a very patriotic person. He was always very respectful of others.
Wayne was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated Army soldier, and a good friend.
He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
