Wayne Wood's Obituary
Forrest Wayne Wood, son of Forrest L. and Lola Mae Snow Wood, was born November 7, 1926, near Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, July 5, 2008, at his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, seven months, and twenty-eight days. On October 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Donna B. Wassem, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born. Together they shared forty-six years before her passing on March 27, 1995. On May 10, 1996, he was united in marriage to Frances Elizabeth Waterman Roper, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherry D. Denney; and two brothers, Ray and Gene Wood. Wayne is survived by two sons, David Wood, and his wife, Kathy, and John Wood, and his wife, Robyn, all of Lebanon, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Amy, Aaron, Leslie, Jennifer, Joey, Kaitlin, Nikki, and Cindy; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Wood, and his wife, Virginia, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born near Lebanon, and was raised in Nebraska. After graduating from Tekamah High School, he attended Sioux City School of Barbering and earned his barber’s license. He soon returned to Lebanon where he made his home for most of his life. He operated a filling station in downtown Lebanon and then was employed by Hugh Palmer Motors for awhile. Later, he co-founded Jacobsen and Wood Furniture and Appliance, which eventually became Wood’s Furniture Showroom, Ltd. Throughout the years, he also owned and operated a cattle farm. Wayne was a longtime active member of White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. He enjoyed gospel music and liked singing in quartets throughout the years. He was a fifty year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge # 192 in Lebanon. In his spare time he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and loved antique cars and tractors. His family was very important to him and he was especially proud of all of his children and grandchildren. Wayne was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated businessman, and a true Christian gentleman. The wonderful memories he made for his family and friends will live on forever. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Churh. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
