Wendell Eugene Gene Meigs' Obituary
endell Eugene “Gene” Meigs, son of Horace Eugene and Emma Augusta (Hyatt) Meigs, was born February 21, 1928, in Nashville, Arkansas. He departed this life Sunday, May 11, 2008, in Hartville Care Center, in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, two months, and twenty days. On July 1, 1995 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Joan Buck Gregory on the deck of the home they have lived in for almost thirteen years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Billy Joe Meigs. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of the home; two sons, Keith Gregory, and his wife, Barbara, of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Kevin Gregory, and his wife, Lisa, of Hanover, Maryland; three daughters, Jill Furgason, and her husband, Don, of Killeen, Texas, Lisa Tiller, and her husband, Jeff, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Amy Lewellen, and her husband, Eric, of Clever, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte Whatley, and her husband, Bob, of Texarkana, Texas, Jeanette Majors, and her husband, Clay, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mary Sinn, of Jacksonville, Florida; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends, including his very special friends, Rick and Barb Palmer, Steve and Judy Freeman, and Steve Bisensang. He was born and raised in Nashville, Arkansas, where he attended school. He then entered the United States Navy and served his country faithfully, while being stationed in California for two years. After being honorably discharged he lived in Arkansas and Texas before moving to Marshfield, Missouri in the mid 1950’s. He worked twenty-five years as a lineman for Sho-Me Power Corporation. After his retirement he worked for Century Real Estate, where he became a broker. In 1990 he moved to Wright County and opened Gene Meigs Real Estate, where he worked as a broker for many years and then added locksmith to his name seven years ago. He was very community minded and had served on the Gasconade Neighbors Board. His new found family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed visiting with customers, staying home raising and training his border collies, going pond fishing, and in his younger years he liked coon hunting. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and many accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, in the Steele Memorial Cemetery, Hartville. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri.
