Wendell G. Long (Seymour)'s Obituary
Wendell Gene Long departed this life on September 29, 2011 at Glenwood Healthcare, in Seymour, Missouri.
Gene, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Boone County, Missouri to Roy Sanford and Mildred Brooks Long on May 21, 1930.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was a cook for most of his service, and had lived in Japan for a time while in the Army.
Gene returned to Columbia and the Jefferson City, Missouri area where he used his skill as a cook working in different hotels and restaurants. He also lived in the State of California for a short time.
He worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections where he retired in 1992 as a Cook III. Following his retirement, Gene moved to his farm in Seymour, Missouri where he resided until February of 2010.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Linda Lou Pulis and Patsy Sue Cunningham, and an infant daughter.
He is survived by two sons, Gordon Baker of Columbia, Missouri, and Wendell Long of the State of California; three daughters, Kathy Wittman, of the State of California, Theresa Miller, of Hallsville, Missouri, and Marsha Daniels, of Columbia, Missouri; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Buckler; and long time friends, Charles "Jack" Smith and his family, and Sally Jane Findley and her family.
Gene’s family would like to thank the staff at Glenwood Healthcare for all of the love and attention shown to their loved one while he was a resident at their facility.
