Wesley Dean Millard (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Wesley Dean Millard, son of Louie Luther and Alice Broyles Millard, was born the youngest of seven children, on April 19, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa. He departed this life Wednesday, September 16, 2015, in his home, near Phillipsburg, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, four months, and twenty-seven days.
On June 4, 1947, he was united in marriage to Norma Jeane Clyde, his high school sweetheart, and they shared the last sixty-eight years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Keri Stargel Keys; three brothers, Luther Millard, Orville Millard, and his wife, Dorothy, and Russell Millard; and three sisters, Velma Shafer, and her husband, Carl, Alvena Schmidt, and her husband, Palmer, and Louise Walker, and her husband, Bob.
Dean is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean “Clydie”, of the home; a son, Galen Millard, and his wife, Roxanna, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; three daughters, Jeanne Stargel, and her husband, Ron, of Springfield, Missouri, Beverly Cotton, and her husband, Bobby Joe, of Parsons, Kansas, and Nancy Triplett, and her husband, Bob, of Conway, Missouri; four grandchildren, Pat Price, Christopher Stargel, Leesa Millard Padgett, and Andrew Triplett, and his wife, Brandy; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Norma Josephine Millard, of Conway, Missouri, and Helen Millard, of Oroville, Washington; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Dean and his parents moved to Laclede County, Missouri in 1935, and he attended grade school in the Washington School District and graduated from Phillipsburg High School. He worked in various jobs and then was employed by the Lee Garment Company in Lebanon, where he eventually worked as a foreman in the packing and shipping department.
In 1964, Dean, Norma Jeane and the family left Lebanon and moved to Oroville, Washington, near his brother, Russell. Dean worked in the shipping department for an apple warehouse for several years. After the death of Norma’s grandfather, in 1968, the family moved back to Missouri and bought the Clyde family home. Later, Dean worked for the Durham Company until retiring in 1987.
Dean was a member of Bear Thicket Freewill Baptist Church and enjoyed his church and the companionship of his church family throughout the years. He had various hobbies that he enjoyed doing to occupy his time, and also enjoyed collecting antiques and other notable items. His family was very important to him and he was extremely proud of all of his children and grandchildren.
Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories he made for them during his eighty-seven years.
Memorial donations may be made to Bear Thicket Freewill Baptist Church or Hospice Compassus, and left at the funeral home.
