Wilbur Cook's Obituary
Wilbur Gene Cook, son of Roy Edgar and Esther E. Greenup Cook, was born December 3, 1929, in Loveland, Colorado. He departed this life Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, five months, and twenty-three days. On November 23, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Jacobs, and to this union two daughters and two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Edgar Leroy, Floyd R. and Gerald B. Cook. Wilbur is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Dorothy, of the home; two daughters, Karin LoFaso, and her husband, Sal, of Overland Park, Kansas, and Karmen Collins and Daryl D’Antonio, of Independence, Missouri; two sons, Kelvin G. Cook, and his wife, Laura, of Milo, Missouri, and Kerstan Cook, and his wife, Christy, of Olathe, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Jerod, Matthew, Grace, Christopher, Robbie, Wesley, Savannah, and Amanda; a great-granddaughter, Makena Layne; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Colorado and then moved with his family to Missouri when he was sixteen years old. In 1951, Wilbur entered the United States Army and served overseas in Japan and then later in Korea, during the Korean War. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, he and Dorothy made their home in the Kansas City and Lenexa, Kansas area. Wilbur had a thirty-nine year career in aeronautics and worked as a flight simulator technician, for part of that time, with Trans World Airlines. In 1992, he retired and he and Dorothy moved to the Lebanon, Missouri area, and began raising cattle on their acreage. Wilbur had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon. In his spare time he enjoyed swimming at the Cowan Civic Center, sail boarding, playing tennis and doing metal detecting. In his younger years, he had coached Little League baseball and was an avid fan of college basketball, especially the Kansas Jay Hawks. He lived his life with gusto and made the most of every minute. He was a very kind and generous man and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family. Wilbur was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday May 29, 2009 at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
