Wilbur I. Chambers' Obituary
Wilbur Ira Chambers, son of Charles Ira and Mary Lattius Durbin Chambers, was born October 21, 1922, near Competition, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, March 23, 2007, in his home, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, five months, and two days. On July 5, 1944, he was united in marriage to Amy Brown, and to this union one daughter and three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Amy, on September 24, 2005; two infant sons, Howard and Ernest Chambers; a brother, Delmer Chambers; and two sisters, Dorthy Douglas, and Cledith Sherrell. Wilbur is survived by a daughter, Mary Maynard, of Grandview, Missouri; a son, Bobby Chambers, and Ann Green, of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jeremy Chambers, Richard Maynard, and Meagan Maynard; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Kennedy, and Aeris; a brother, Lowell Chambers, and his wife, Kathleen, of McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Charlotte Anderson, and her husband, Jim, and Lucille Winters, all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Betty Dill, and her husband, Alva, of Conway, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Competition, Missouri area. He then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for a few years and helped build the Hoover Dam. After moving to Kansas City, he married his childhood sweetheart and they made their home there and lovingly raised their family. Wilbur was employed in the maintenance department of the Center School District for over twenty years, and part of those years he and Amy worked together. Wilbur followed the Baptist faith throughout his life and had made his peace with the Lord. In his spare time he greatly enjoyed fishing, especially with Amy, and liked working on small engines. His family was the center of his life and he loved having all of them together under his roof as often as possible. Wilbur was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and honor his memory and will hold tightly to the wonderful moments he shared with his family and friends. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the McBride Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in The Worship Center, Overland Park, Kansas. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
