Wilburn Vest Jr. (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Wilburn Westly “Bus” Vest, Jr., son of the late Wilburn W. and Oleta (Knowles) Vest, was born on August 31, 1927 in Buffalo, MO, and departed this life on October 14, 2017 at Colonial Springs Health Care in Buffalo, MO. At the time of his passing he was 90 years and 13 days of age.
Bus was reared and attended school in Buffalo, MO. During his High School years, he had a band and was an excellent vocalist. During a competition in Springfield, MO, he was awarded the opportunity to attend the famous Julliard School of Music in New York City on a partial scholarship. He turned down the offer after graduation and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. While he was stationed at Terminal Island in San Pedro, CA in 1947 he me Edith Louise Conklin. They were united in marriage on January 27, 1948. Bus retired from the Marine Corps. in Palms, CA and relocated to Vista, CA where he continued to work Civil Service. He later moved his family to Buffalo, MO, where he raised beef cattle and sold real estate with his wife Edie for 18 years. At the age of 87, Bus moved to Morningside assisted living community to be near his daughter. After several strokes, he moved to Colonial Springs Healthcare where he stayed until his passing.
Bus was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Vest; his parents; and his siblings, Orville, Ethel Chloe, Ether, Luther, Jean Willo, Donna and Bill. He is survived by his son, Ron & wife Patty Vest of Raytown, MO; his daughter, Beverly & husband Nick Weyland of Springfield, MO; grandson, Jonathan Wickins of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandson, Wesley Wickins; grandson, Brian & wife Sarah Wickins of Springfield, MO; great-grandsons, Cy Eli, Abel; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Wickins. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Maple Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Joshua Keeny officiating. Escorts will be Ron Vest, Nick Weyland, Jonathan Wickins, Brian Wickins, and Wesley Wickins. Services are under the direction of the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo.
