Wilford R. Hibdon (Camdenton)'s Obituary
Wilford Raymond Hibdon, son of William and Ollie Mae Cleveland Hibdon, was born January 23, 1929, in Camdenton, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, February 19, 2011, in his daughter’s home, Sunrise Beach, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, and twenty-seven days.
On November 22, 1952, Wilford was united in marriage to Edna Mae Pape and together they shared forty-four years until her passing on January 24, 1997.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Lee Parkhurst; two brothers, Arthur and Jackson Hibdon; and two sisters, Melanda Snyder and Ruth Sturgrill.
Wilford is survived by his son, Clinton Hibdon of Hartford, Connecticut; one daughter, Eddie Rae Keltner and husband, Larry, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; a step-daughter, Phyllis Booth and husband, Don, of Linn Creek, Missouri; three grandchildren, Patrick Parkhurst of Vermont, Nichole Stone of Linn Creek, Missouri, and Jim Stone and wife, Christy, and their children, Lauren, Tyler, and Mia, all of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Uriah “Rusty” Hibdon and wife, Rosemary, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; his sisters-in-law, Alice Hibdon of Kearney, Missouri, and Ruthie Hibdon of Kansas City, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Wilford was saved in 1947 at Rock Dale Union Church during a revival with Brother Winfrey. He was baptized at New Franklin Baptist Church in a tank in North Jefferson City.
He served his country proudly in the Korean War for two years. He finished his enlistment with the United States Army as a reservist serving for three more years.
Wilford was a truck driver from 1953 until his retirement in 1991. He loved trucking and could immediately identify the make and model of nearly every truck on the road just by the sound it made.
He stayed busy during his retirement by tinkering around in his garage; working on small engines or whatever else he could find that needed fixed. He was also a member of the American Legion Zack Wheat Post # 624, the VFW Post # 5923 and the American Legion’s 40 and 8 Club.
Wilford was a loving dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
